| Biography |
| Leela is warrior of the Sevateem tribe, a savage race of humans who descended from the survivors of the Mordee scientific expedition after they crashed on a deserted planet in the far future. Despite being a ‘savage’, she is considerably intelligent, and strongwilled enough to resist the Doctor’s attempts to civilise her. Her father died undertaking a ritual test on her behalf – Leela had insulted the Sevateem’s god, Xoanon – and she was exiled as a result of his failure. It was following this that she first encounted the Doctor, who had caused the Mordee’s computer to develop a split personality on a previous visit to the planet. He restored the computer’s sanity, and, when he attempted to leave again, Leela invited herself on to the TARDIS. They traveled together for several months, and, although Leela’s war-like nature triggered many arguments between them, she came to trust him implicitly. So much so that, when he assumed the post of President of the High Council of Time Lords – and exiled her from the Capitol – she remained fiercely loyal. She helped repel an invading force of Sontarans, and eventually chose to remain behind on Gallifrey with Andred of the Chancellery Guard. Leela spent the next few decades of her life on the planet and, after Andred’s disappearance, came to serve as bodyguard and friend to Lady President Romanadvoratrelundar. |
